Differences between Tidy It Up ! and Tidy It Up ! II Tidy It Up ! II works in all the folders included in the system folder. Tidy It Up ! II creates dummy files instead of dummy folders. The rules may include file names. The rule list is no longer limited to 255 characters like in Tidy It Up ! Tidy It Up ! II can move files like Finder, System,… by quitting the finder when moving them (under system 7 only). Tidy It Up ! II has a help window which can be printed. How to remove all dummy files If for any reason you want to remove all the dummy files created with Tidy It Up ! II : The option "Move files only in Dummy Files Folders" must be UNSELECTED. The option "Create Dummy Categories Files" must be UNSELECTED. The option "Delete Unused Categories Files" must be SELECTED. and now Tidy It Up ! your volume. Using a dummy folder instead of a dummy file If for any reason you want to use a dummy folder, you must create it under the Finder, rename it as a dummy file name (including the prefix if needed). Tidy It Up ! will use this folder as a category dummy "file". I would like to work and to see the files from only one folder The option "Move files only in Dummy Files Folders" must be SELECTED. Using the Dummy Files Folders preferences dialog, select your chosen folder. Open the files window, Tidy It Up ! should show only files for the selected folder. A nice side effect Due to the two different internal engines to scan folders selected by the option "Move files only in Dummy Files Folders" , you can have an unexpected bonus feature. When this option is not selected, Tidy It Up ! scans all the folders within the system folder and then checks if it has to create dummy files. Using this method, it is impossible to Tidy It Up ! a folder which is not contained in the System Folder. (This method is also much faster) When this option is Selected, Tidy It Up ! scans all the selected folders from the Dummy Files Folders preferences dialog regardless of whether the folder is in the system folder or not. So using this feature, you can Tidy It Up ! a folder which is not included in the system folder. (Remember that the path is always stored from the System folder). If this feature interests you but the setting of "Move files only in Dummy Files Folders" doesn't correspond to your needs for the system folder, you should create two preferences files, one for the system folder and the other one for all your non-system folders. My menu utility shows dummy files in menus Uncheck "Control Panels" in the Dummy Files Folders preferences. This kind of problem happens in the Apple Menu Items and Startup Items too. So avoid creating dummy files in these folders. Write a kind letter to the maker of these nice utilities which should state : I'm a user of Tidy It Up ! II, due to the way it works it would be very nice of you if your utility could skip any files with the type 'Clik' and creator 'Clak' in their menus.
